Seeking Counselors for Moonlight Day Camp

We are looking to hire energetic, responsible counselor staff for the summer Day Camp in a beautiful bungalow colony in the Catskill Mountains. Moonlight Day Camp serves the Modern Orthodox residents of Moonlight Cottages and neighboring towns and bungalow colonies, with programs and activities for boys and girls from ages 2-11. Good pay commensurate with experience; clean new air-conditioned dorm accommodations; weekly shopping runs; fun, structured after-hours staff-only activities; an enjoyable summer work environment; and access to great facilities are just some of the perks of working here.

Your goal as a counselor is simple: Make this summer the most memorable and wonderful camp experience your campers will ever have, for the rest of their lives.

Applicants do not need prior experience, but they should demonstrate a quick ability to learn and take direction. Counselors report to the Camp Director and must attend two days of all-staff orientation and training before camp begins.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Supervise campers together with your co-counselors.

  • Facilitate your camper’s participation in daily camp activities, including swimming, sports, arts and crafts, and learning.

  • Communicate with parents as to the well-being and participation of their children, as needed, in coordination with the Camp Director.

  • Monitor the health, safety and well-being of all campers under your care.

  • Help maintain a spiritual atmosphere appropriate for a modern Orthodox Jewish camp by wearing appropriate modest attire (girls) and attending minyan (boys).

  • Making sure all campers have coordinated travel home at the end of each day.

Job Requirements

  • 13 and older

  • Understanding of the rules and cultural practices of modern Orthodox Judaism

  • Physically capable of moving quickly between various locations on our multi-acre campus, including woods and hilly terrain, during the camp-day

  • Have previous positive camp experience as a counselor.
